Beverly Hills Breast ImplantsFor the majority of our patients, their goal is to get larger, but still natural-looking breasts from their breast implants. Beverly Hills patients typically want to avoid any indication that they have had any work done on their breasts. There are several concerns that they have in this respect. The most common concern is the incision scar. But another issue that our patients worry about is something called “rippling.” In this blog post, we’ll look at what rippling is, what causes it, and steps that our patients can take to potentially avoid it.

If you’ve always wanted to have larger, fuller, and perkier breasts, we would love to talk with you. Give Dr. Bruno a call today at (310) 461-3855. What is Rippling?

Our patients that get breast implants often experience a huge boost in their confidence (and also in their sex life). But one of the things that patients discuss with Dr. Bruno is their fear of “rippling.”

Rippling happens when the breast implant starts to show through the skin on the breast. It will often appear as ripples in the skin, usually near the bottom of the breast implant. Beverly Hills patients want their implants to be attractive and full but they usually prefer them not to be obvious. So what can patients do to avoid this?

Rippling and Breast Implants

Beverly Hills patients have several options that they can choose from to avoid rippling.

  • Implant type – Saline implants tend to produce more rippling than other types. Imagine filling a plastic bag with water. The liquid inside will almost always cause the walls of the bag to ripple. While silicone implants may produce rippling, because the fluid inside of them is more solid, they resist rippling better than saline.
  • Implant placement – There are two types of implant placement: above the chest muscle or below it. When placed on top of the chest muscle, the implant has less tissue covering it. So if it ripples, there is a better chance that the ripples will show through. Placing the implant under the muscle can help hide the rippling.
  • Implant size – Another factor is the size of the breast implants. Beverly Hills patients that get larger implants will face more a risk of rippling simply because there is more implant under the skin.
