Each year, over 300,000 women in the United States have breast augmentation surgery. The procedure can increase the size and change the shape of the breasts to provide patients with a fuller, more youthful, and more symmetrical appearance.

Dr. Bruno’s West Hollywood breast augmentation patients choose the procedure to:

  • Enhance and balance the shape of their body.
  • Minimize the effects of pregnancy and nursing.
  • Be able to wear certain styles of clothing more comfortably.
  • Have greater satisfaction with the way they look.

How Breast Augmentation Works

During your initial consultation with William Bruno Plastic Surgery, Dr. Bruno reviews the procedure to answer questions and to ensure that you are a good candidate. This and other pre-surgical visits will involve medical examinations as well as an evaluation of your unique anatomy and the goals you are trying to achieve.

Dr. Bruno performs breast augmentation in West Hollywood with the use of FDA-approved implants. Two of the decisions that he will make with you are:

  1. The type of implant for your procedure.
  2. The surgical approach your body requires.

Implants come in different shapes, textures, and sizes. Choosing the right implant for your body is essential, as it allows Dr. Bruno to sculpt more attractive, natural-looking breasts. You will have the opportunity to visualize your results with our practice’s 3D imaging software.

Dr. Bruno conducts the procedure at an accredited outpatient surgery center under general anesthesia. A typical breast augmentation takes about one hour.

Generally, Dr. Bruno makes the incision in the lower portion of the breast crease, which can limit the complications associated with the procedure. Depending on your unique body type, the incision may be made around the areola (periareolar), which is the darker skin surrounding the nipple. Both scars tend to heal quite well, especially with the help of silicone gels and silicone tape used after surgery.  These decisions will be discussed with you before your procedure.

West Hollywood Breast Augmentation: Factors to Consider

You may be familiar with two common types of breast implants: saline and silicone. All of the implants that Dr. Bruno uses are FDA-approved. There have been thousands of studies performed on breast implants, and there are no health risks associated with either type.

Breast implants do not usually need replacing. There are some cases, however, in which follow-up surgery is required. One case is if you decide to change the size of your breasts again. The other is if you develop a complication.

Some patients experience a deflation or capsular contracture (scar tissue); the latter occurs between 10%-15% of all patients worldwide who undergo breast augmentation. With contracture, the implants can feel hard to the touch and may look asymmetric or distorted in severe cases, which may require a follow-up procedure. Dr. Bruno will advise you about how to reduce capsular contracture to get the best outcome possible.

West Hollywood Breast Augmentation Recovery and Results

Dr. Bruno and his team will talk with you before surgery about your recovery and will provide ongoing care after your procedure.

Following your breast augmentation, you will wear a surgical bra for four weeks. The material offers much more comfort than a typical bra during the immediate postoperative period. West Hollywood breast augmentation patients take pain medication and, occasionally, muscle relaxants for a few days after surgery. Most patients can return to work and drive a car in about three days.

Dr. Bruno will advise you to avoid heavy lifting or strenuous activity for 4-6 weeks. You should also massage your implants to reduce the formation of hard scar tissue. The implants may at first appear high and firm to the touch. By around the second or third month, though, your breasts will look and feel more natural and should have the symmetry and fullness you are trying to achieve.
