Can you give me an idea of what to expect during my liposuction recovery period?
A: Liposuction recovery
Most patients do quite well during their recovery from liposuction. Oral pain medications such as Vicodin for a few days is usually sufficient to control the pain. Compressive garments are typically worn for about four weeks after the procedure to minimize swelling and to assist with the final contour. Most paients are back to work in about three days. Depending on the area treated, most patients are advised to avoid strenous activity for about four weeks after surgery.
Patients describe the experience as a soreness, more than a sharp pain. The deeper structures such as bone and muscle are not involved in the surgery, just the soft tissue or fatty layer. There is occasionally some numbness of the skin in the overlying areas which typically resolves within a few weeks.
Please consult with a board certified plastic surgeon prior to scheduling any liposuction procedure.
