Body Lift Beverly Hills
A body lift, also known as a belt lipectomy or circumferential tummy tuck is a procedure to remove excess skin from the entire trunk (front, back and sides). This procedure is usually indicated in patients who have lost a significant amount of weight; either through diet and exercise or from weight reduction surgery. A body lift can be applied to the lower torso and upper legs including the abdomen, waist, inner/outer thighs, buttocks, and/or hips. Liposuction may also be completed in conjunction with a body lift.
Reasons for Considering a Body Lift:
Reshape mid-body contour.
Correct sagging skin and fat due to aging or excessive weight loss from gastric bypass surgery
Remedy weight gain and stretched skin caused by multiple pregnancies.
The precise procedure varies with each patient, depending on the body type and desired surgical outcome. Generally, excess skin is removed from the abdomen, pubic area, flanks (love handles), outer thighs and buttock area. This is accomplished by an incision that goes all the way around the waistline, like a belt. This incision is located within the underwear line. The entire procedure can last from 4 to 6 hours. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and may require an overnight stay at an aftercare facility for observation.
Several drainage tubes are placed to drain excess fluids and are removed in about one to two weeks. The scars resulting from the incisions are permanent but are carefully placed so as to minimize visibility. Patients sometimes report minor pain associated with surgery which can be treated with oral medication. Recovery time varies with the extent of the procedure however most patients will require one to two weeks off of work. Early walking is important to help minimize the development of blood clots in the lower extremities.
Often times, Beverly Hills patients may need more than one procedure (ex. body lift and thigh or arm lift) which need to be performed at separate stages for safety reasons. Dr. Bruno will be able to outline a body contouring surgical plan based on your specific anatomy and your specific concerns.
