As our breast implant patients begin to move forward with the process, one of their chief concerns is what their scar will look like. Unfortunately, whenever the skin is cut a scar will form as the incision heals. Many of our patients ask Dr. Bruno if there is anything that they can do to reduce the size of the scar. One of the discussions that Dr. Bruno has with our patients is how their incision is impacted by their choice of breast implants. Beverly Hills women have more options than ever before when it comes to FDA-approved implants. In this blog post we’ll look at how the different types can result in different size scars.

Incision Size and Breast Implants
Beverly Hills patients usually want to get a “natural” look from their breast implants. But part of that is making sure that people can’t see or notice the resulting scar. Here is a quick breakdown of how the type of breast implant you choose can impact the scar size.
- Saline implants – Many of our patients don’t realize that saline implants actually come deflated. One of the benefits of this is that Dr. Bruno can roll them up and then insert them into the breast pocket. This allows him to make a slightly smaller incision. Once the implants are in place, he fills them with the desired volume of saline solution.
- Silicone gel – Unlike saline implants, silicone gel implants come prefilled. However, there are certain techniques that still allow surgeons to make a smaller incision. The Keller Funnel is a device that compacts the implant down so that it can be inserted into the breast pocket through as small an incision as possible.
- Cohesive gel – One of the most popular types of breast implants, Beverly Hills patients love these “gummy bear” implants because they feel very natural. However, cohesive gel implants do require a slightly larger incision.
