Why doesn’t diet and exercise work to get rid of a double chin? I’m only 27 and I can’t remember when I first noticed the collection of fat under my chin. My diet is strict and I exercise all the time, but nothing changes. Is chin liposuction the only or best way to get rid of the double chin?
A: Chin liposuction
Liposuction of the chin (submental area) in a young patient can result in a very good contour. If this is a localized collection of fat that is not responsive to diet and exercise, then liposuction may be the best option for you. Assuming you have good skin tone with no stretch marks in the area, liposuction, which is done with minimal scarring, can offer a nice result. You must be willing to wear a compressive garment for several weeks after the surgery to help remold the skin in a favorable way. Since this is a concave area, it will contract nicely over time, and you will see your final result a few months after the procedure.
Please consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to be examined carefully to ensure you are a good candidate for this procedure.
