I had read of a procedure that allows a breast augmentation while doing a tummy tuck, using the tummy tuck incision rather than incising the breast. Is this a commonly used procedure? Would it be as accurate placement if it was done using this method?
A: Breast augmentation through tummy tuck incision
Breast implants can be inserted through the abdominal incision used for a tummy tuck but this is not the standard or ideal approach. Visualization is limited and it is difficult to properly place the implant in a subpectoral (under the muscle) location. Furthermore, there is communication between the abdominal space and the breast implant space which could create a potential increased risk of infection.
Although this approach is possible, most plastic surgeons would not favor this method. Consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon experienced in this technique prior to scheduling this type of surgery.
Best wishes,
