Q: Will my Insurance Pay for Breast Lift?

A: Will insurance cover a breast lift

A breast lift (mastopexy) can be covered by insurance if a certain number of criteria are met.  The insurance companies need to see a certain amount of breast tissue removed (usally 500 gms per side)- this can typically be achieved more often with a breast reduction than with a breast lift.  The patient needs to demonstrate symptoms of back and/or neck pain which may be relieved by the reduced size of the breasts.  Occasionally some patients can develop rashes under their breast folds which can benefit from a lift procedure.  The insurance companies typcially require photographic documentation and a letter from your plastic surgeon detailing your particular situation.

Each insurance company has slightly different criteria, and this needs to be addressed on an individual basis.

In general, breast reductions can be covered, while breast lifts are not.

Please consult with a board certified plastic surgeon prior to scheduling a breast lift or breast reduction.
